Very impressed with the organisation, we saw about thirty people through the night. Everyone extremely helpful and friendly. Seen enough sweaty feet to last a lifetime!

I wish I had not dropped a piece of wood on my foot, then I could have competed rather than marshalled
Ann Spandrzyk & Olivia Ireland Marshalled at Pole Cottage
No one noticed our flowers!
Allen Smalls Suffolk 8hrs 10mins Joint 2nd
Very good event, people at the checkpoints cheerful and helpful. Need to get some new punches, they are too blunt, I must have lost at least 1 min!!

Got grouped at Stiperstones Car Park, Andy Davies was 11mins inside the record so we knew we had to go for it, felt under pressure to help Andy achieve the record, glad we did it.

One navigational slip up between Woodgate and Welsh Lodge, dropped down too low. Very dark night.

1st time. Now appreciate how difficult it is!
Credit to organisers, lots of support behind the scenes, could not fault it, I don't think it could be bettered, credit to all volunteers.
Thanks to medical team for painkillers and plasters. Grouped at Bank Farm.
James Hinton, Leominster, Retired at Shelve 11 hrs.

Back next year with tougher feet!

Worst hill, Caradoc. Grouped at Bridges.
Jayne Hughes, Leebotwood 21 hrs 44 mins

Pat Middleton, Closing Officer.
Thanks to Shukers for supplying the vehicles, they are a great help.
Brian Faulkner, Chair of Longmynd Hike Committee
Congratulations to all of the winners, my definition of a winner is anyone who has taken part, all 463 of you, you have all reached a personal goal.
Thanks to all the helpers, the people in remote corners, Raynet radio operators, the Paramedics, and Kitchen staff, a special thank you to Josh, Jennie, Mike and Johno for staffing Black Rhadley at short notice.
Hard to believe that it is 41 years since 3 of us walked around South Shropshire looking for a route for a hike and stopping at every pub on the way!
Well done to Andy on breaking the record, coming home in 7 hours 51 mins, also to Gill for setting a new women's record of 10 hours 01 min.
Martin Berry, Habberley, 23 hrs 48 mins
1st time, what an epic!
Got dragged into my local in Habberley on the way up Earls Hill and on the way back down!
Got lost between Woodgate and Welsh Lodge and wondered around Black Rhadley. Was not prepared for the night section, we were expecting to follow people!
Organisation was exceptional, friendly crowd from start to finish.
Sarah Berry, Habberley, 23 hrs 48 mins
Encouragement all of the way round, brilliant people.
My 1st time I did it for love!
Caryl Roscoe, 16 hrs 23 mins
Sorry I have only just got round to writing. I have been on too much of a high since the race to get myself organised.
I would like to give everyone a very BIG THANK YOU for all the effort of organising such an event. For all the ground work before the event, and then all those wonderful helpers on the day especially those who had to man check points all night, and then the all night kitchen staff.
Thank you it was wonderful, why I left it so late in life I shall never know, and hopefully I shall have a few more years to enjoy it again.
Iain Prentice, 15 hrs 51 mins
Thanks very much to everyone who helped put on the hike - it was our first year and it was absolutely fantastic. Didn't go according to plan as we lost one of our group to retirement at 10 miles but we then put on some pace and reached Earls Hill for a wonderful sunset and were grouped at Bank Farm with someone who had done it 4 times before and so route-finding wasn't a problem. We even picked up pace on the back half of the route and completed in 15 hrs 51 really pleased. Great fun and only problem is still buzzing with adrenaline a week later..Thanks to all involved, brilliant weekend
Graeme Reid, Glasgow 12hrs 15mins
Fantastic event, well organized, very friendly, superb volunteers.
Worst bit had to be struggling to the top of Earls Hill to be told that England had beaten Australia 12:10 in the rugby - not what a tired Jock wants to hear!
Best bit was teaming up with Quentin, Paul and Chris whose navigation was faultless and who kept me going to the finish - thanks guys!
Steven Cox, Baschurch 16hrs 47mins
I would just like to thank all the volunteers who made this an excellent event.
Dave (The Paramedic)
Excellent organisation, Perfect conditions, Hats off to Terry and Jo on 2nd circuit.
Worst bit:- Corndon, ran out of steam on the accent then lost on the decent added extra 30mins to time. On way to Stiperstones cp 2nd time around again took wrong direction losing another 30mins. why is it when you are heading in the wrong direction it as always downhill !!!!
Best Bit:- Finishing at second attempt (24hrs 32mins) and walking partners who did a much better job navigating than I could ever, many thanks to you all. better recce's next year!
Karen, Annette, Julie and Jackie. Flitwick, Amptill, Flitwick and Marston Mortaine
Hello,
I would just like to thank everyone on behalf of my three friends and I. We were the group of ladies who were determined to finish even though we were well and truly last.
The support we received from everyone we met at the checkpoints and at the finish was truly amazing. We kept many of you from your beds but you were always smiling, supportive and helpful. To keep the finish open for us after the cut off time and to have kept our meal warm was the icing on the cake.
We are blistered, sore limbed and tired but strangely enough talking of doing it again next year.
We know certain areas where we could shave off some time and promise if we do do it we will make it before the cut off time.
Ian Roberts, Shawbury 14hrs 52mins
Yee haa, made it this year! 14 hours 54 mins. Last year pulled out at Woodgate Farm at 13 hours, so really pleased with the results. Big Thanks to Dave & Jamie (Oswestry), I was paired up with these guys from Bank Farm, two very strong walkers, thanks for your great company.
High points:
Making it to Bank Farm before dark.
A banana from a competitors husband in Habberly, greatly appreciated.
The fantastic check point staff at all check points, big thanks to all.
Finishing!
Low points:
Blister on left heel at about 10 mile in.
Falling off bench at Bank Farm, felt a right idiot.
Stroppy hiker getting irrate at checking out man at Shelve, no need.
The idiot throwing things from another field whilst coming down Cordon.
Sunday, vowed never to do anything so stupid again, have registered for next years event already.
Big Thanks to all, organisers volunteers and competitors.
See you 2008
Dionne Burgoyne, Shrewsbury, Claire Burgoyne, Shrewsbury and Sean McCarthy Plealy, 20hrs 55mins
Another absolutely fabulous hike - enjoyed every part of it except to drag up to High Park (which I always hate) and the walk to Pole Cottage, that is a long 4 miles!! Loved Ragleth. The support was as ever fantastic the helpers at all the points were great. First time for my daughter Claire and her boyfriend Sean - hopefully not the last. Met up with the two Simon's from last year and walked with them again. It is a very meaningful friendship you strike up with people when you've walked 50 miles with them - can't wait for next year. Well done again to Phil and the gang - don't know how you do it but keep on doing it!!
Matt Smith, Bebbington 14hrs 27mins
It was unbelievable that such an operation could be carried out at the same price to the competitors as your average 10K road race. It was great to see so many volunteers helping out, and the checkpoints really broke the race up and gave you something to aim for, although I will never forgive the fish and chip eaters.
Thanks to Simon and Neill who picked me and Charlie up at night time and led us round the course. It was superb just to be able to get on with the walk and not worry about map reading. I think we'd still be out there now if it wasn't for your help. Thanks for the banter too. Always helps take your mind off any pain. Neill, I hope your knee is getting better and you decide to give it another go next year.
Thanks to Charlie. We'll sort our kit out a bit earlier next time mate. (Beware the rigorous kit requirements future competitors).
Oh, and well done organisers for putting a comedy farmer missile launcher into the route. It really gave everyone something to talk about. Just give the competitors something to throw back next time.
Ted Blair, Shrewsbury 17hrs 21mins
Very well run event thanks. Especially thanks to those who I was fortunate to be grouped with, Annie Michael and Peter and the final seven who I finished with (06:21) whose names were lost in my delirious state by then but who I'm not sure I would have done it without. And of course all the support people who were wonderful. All the climbs were tough and I wish I had taped my poor feet
Robert Barclay, Worcester 17hrs 19mins
First time on the Longmynd Hike, and what a terrific event. Finished in 17hrs 19mins. a little bit slower than I had hoped but still incredibly satisfying. I hadn't fully grasped what 50 miles, 8000ft ascent and night hiking was like. I now know! Roll on next year.
I can only give my hearty thanks to all who were involved in organising the Hike, from registration and kit check to the hardy souls perched on hill tops in the middle of the night. All were helpful and cheery and made the miles seem shorter and the hills less steep.
A special thanks to Will, Dan and Ed with whom I was grouped at Bank Farm, particularly Will, who had done the Hike twice before. His navigation was faultless, due to experience, practice and local knowledge.P
Worst bits..........the long drag from Bank Farm to Shelve and Corndon Hill.
Best bits.............all those cups of juice, tea, soup etc......a chair and cooked breakfast at the finish
THE WEATHER.....perfect!
All my friends said I must be mad. It's so nice to prove them right.
Julia Kelly Church Stretton 14hrs 22mins
Fantastic 40th year, hated the first 25 miles loved the second 25 I guess it took me that long to "get in the zone!!!" It was a shame about the mad farmer at the bottom of Corndon!!!! Many thanks to all my friends and family for their support.
