Checkpoint numbers followed by [R] provide refreshments, water and squash. Overnight, and also if cold during daylight hours, they will provide tea, coffee and soup. The school kitchen provides a never-ending supply of tea and coffee and, from around 06:00 on the Sunday, a breakfast for each hiker.
## Black Rhadley Hill By kind permission of the landowners for the day of the event only there is an optional alternative route to ascend Black Rhadley commencing at grid ref 335957 and using the public footpath to the west of, and then north of, Pellrhadley hill; then a waymarked path across private land. Please don't trespass on the private part of the new route by using it other than on the weekend of the Hike, we lost easy access to Black Rhadley for five years due to trespass and damage, we don't want to lose it again. Checkpoint 11B, which was required between 2010 and 2015 to enforce using the road around the south of the hill, will no longer exist. You may continue to use the road if you prefer.
Railway Crossing To get from checkpoint 2 to checkpoint 3 it is necessary to cross the Shrewsbury-Hereford railway line. The Hike Committee strongly recommend that this is done by means of the road under the railway bridge at grid ref 472980, or the road bridge over the railway at grid ref 468966. If hikers ignore this recommendation and choose to cross the railway by the foot crossing of the tracks at grid ref 469968 they must familiarise themselves with the safe crossing guidance provided by Network Rail.
