The 2020 Longmynd Hike has been cancelled

The Hike Committee met in a virtual meeting on 5th July 2020 and have taken the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Longmynd Hike. We have done this in the interest of maintaining the safety of the community, the hikers and Hike staff.

The Committee have been made aware that social media is being used to organise an alternative Hike in the absence of the official event. Please do not take part in such activities. The official Hike has been cancelled to not only protect the health of those that take part but to stop a large gathering of people potentially transmitting Coronavirus to local people.

The Hike relies on the support and goodwill of people in Church Stretton, of landowners and of residents around the route. They allow us access to their privately owned land and let us use their buildings, and farmyards for our checkpoints, communications relay points and support vehicles. They willingly supply water and electricity for checkpoints. Please don't compromise the safety of these people. Please don't antagonise these people. Please don't jeopardise the relationships built up over many years. We understand that many of you have been in training for the official Longmynd Hike, but it would be a great shame if the actions of a few meant that there was no event to train for next year due to the local community withdrawing their support and permission. Do not allow the few to spoil this great event and do not partake in any alternative being arranged for the first weekend in October.

We intend to put on the Hike in 2021 over the weekend of 2nd and 3rd October 2021, please check back here in January 2021 for further details.
